2008 July > The Textile Museum Snap Downtown Toronto had the pleasure of attending the opening to The Textile Museum's new show 'Close to You'. A real unique show exploring popular myth, comic book heroes, and pop culture through textiles. From the 9 foot tall, well furred sasquatch lady, a Shebaca shag rug tableaux, to the remarkably rendered 'pink creatures', who would have thought you can make such controversial statements with textiles. There are life-sized knitted superhero costumes, coupled with photographed heroes' in 'action', panoramic fantasy-scaped murals, and thought provoking embroidered statements taken from rock'nroll lyrics. And to top it all off some sweet people amongst some truly impressive creations. Worth a personal visit. 55 Centre St., in the heart of Chinatown.
