2008 July > Habesha-Taste of Our Town Habesha, an area of Ethiopia, has a special style of food all its own. Genet, owner and chef of Habesha Restaurant, makes sure everything she prepares is fresh and authentic. More like being welcome into a friends' home than a restaurant, a visit to Habesah is sure to please the adventurous gourmet in you. She makes her own buttermilk cheese, slow cooks the beef and lamb for at least 3 hours, and depending on your palate, you can special order the spice from 'hot and authentic' to a little less intense. What a pleasure! The vegetarian platter is the house speciality, and they're open for breakfast most days. In my humble opinion this is what's best about Toronto: our multi-cultural mix, we're abundant with it. Where else can you walk into an Ethiopian kitchen and be welcomed and fed like family. 1028 St. Clair Ave. W. 416-850-2574
