The Kingston National Portrait Prize
Canada’s National Portrait Competition, The Kingston Prize, was held this year at Waddington’s Auctioneers and SNAP was in attendance to witness the announcement of the Toronto’s People’s Choice Prize winner. The Kingston Prize is a biennial national competition for contemporary portraits of Canadians by Canadian artists, with an exhibition of 30 finalists chosen by a distinguished jury of three nationally recognized experts. The competition is now on its first national tour with exhibitions in Kingston, Ontario, Wolfville, Nova Scotia; Toronto, Ontario, and Calgary, Alberta. The winner of Toronto’s People’s Choice Prize was a tie and went to artists Mariana Dieul from Montreal, and Allan Harding MacKay from Toronto. The winners both received $500.
